The motifs are 31/8 inches square. For each place mat, cut linen 131/2; by I81/2 inches; for each napkin, cut linen 121/2 inches square. Hemstitch, making 1 inch hems. For place mat, with a sharp pencil draw 31/4inch lines 1/4 inch inside the hemstitching and parallel to each corner. Using these lines as guides, com­plete 31/4inch squares in each corner and baste the motifs in place. Buttonhole stitch over the lines catching in the picots.
